Free Things To Do in Kansas City
Kansas City in America’s heartland is best known for its excellent BBQ and jazz. It’s also a very affordable–and fun–city to visit and offers a number of free attractions.
Hallmark Visitors’ Center - Hallmark Cards, one of Kansas City’s largest employers, welcomes visitors to explore the history of this nearly 100 year-old company. There are photographs, cards from periods throughout the company’s history, and a number of interactive exhibits. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday. Even the parking is free.
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art - This well-regarded art museum features over 33,000 art objects. Highlights include the European painting collection, the sculpture garden, paintings by American artists and the Hallmark’s photography collection, which was donated to the museum in 2006. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays.
Kansas City Board of Trade - Similar, but less well-known, than the New York Stock Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Kansas City Board of Trade deals mainly with the buying and selling of wheat futures. It’s a lively place to see capitalism in action.
