Set a travel budget and stop worrying

Nothing can ruin a vacation quicker than worrying about money during the trip. Unfortunately. this happens to many people. Vacations are expensive. You get to the destination and start shelling out for food, souvenirs and attractions. Before you know it, you’re digging into credit cards to cover costs. But when you lie down in your hotel room at night, you can’t sleep from worry.

You need to stop worrying about money while you’re on vacation; after all you’re on vacation to relax. This doesn’t mean that you should just freely spend without thinking about it. That would rapidly lead to buyer’s remorse. Instead, you should plan ahead. Before you even think about getting away from it all, sit down and look realistically at your savings.

Make a list of all of your expected expenses. Include everything from transportation and lodging to the shopping that you’ll do. Then add a little bit on top of this amount to give yourself some wiggle room. Look at how your list compares with your travel savings and see if you need to make some cuts. Perhaps you’ve allotted yourself enough money to go to restaurants every day but you can cut back by getting groceries during the trip. Make your planned spending and your savings line up as closely as possible.

If you’re going to need to borrow some money to cover the extras, plan in advance how much to borrow. Take that money out of your credit card prior to the trip so that you aren’t just using the card liberally throughout the vacation. Write down how you plan to pay that off when you get back. This may all sound like a headache, but if you do it before you leave, you won’t be thinking about it during the trip. Which leaves you plenty of time to just relax and enjoy your vacation.
