Sometimes you just need to take an impulsive trip away from home. Unfortunately, that can get kind of pricey if you don’t play your cards right. Here are some tips and ideas for taking a last-minute weekend getaway that won’t break your piggy bank.
• Road trip and camp in another part of the state. You can pack the car and go at just the cost of gas and some small camp fees if you’ve already got what you need. If you’re in the northern part of your state, head south or vice versa to get a climate that’s different from your own.
• Cross state lines. Make a quick trip to a small town in a neighboring state. Usually border towns are fairly inexpensive and you got the luxury of exploring some place nearby in a place you’ve never been.
• Swap homes with a family member. Call up your sister that lives three towns over and ask her if she wants to swap homes for a weekend. You each get to getaway at only the cost it takes to get there.
• Last minute flights. If you look for deals, especially on websites that specialize in last minute airfare, you can sometimes find a destination that isn’t too pricey. If you’re open-minded about where you go, this can be a way to do it. Make sure to check the price of hotels, too, since sometimes they’re too expensive to make this worthwhile.
• Vacation at home. Sometimes it’s best not to go anywhere at all. Turn off your phone, tell everyone that you’re going to be out of town and then spend the entire weekend doing what you want in your own house. Don’t do work, don’t return calls. Enjoy your at-home vacation.
