When you go on vacation, you expect to spend some money. That’s perfectly fine; you’re there to indulge. However, most people end up wasting money on unnecessary shopping. Here are some common travel purchases that you should avoid during a vacation to save yourself some money.
- Magazines and books at the airport: Reading material at the airport is expensive. Purchase these items in advance and bring them with you. In fact, check around the house first to see if there’s a magazine or book you already own that could go on the trip.
- Clothing: Pack carefully so that you don’t need to buy new clothes at your destination. Check the weather to see if you need a jacket. Make sure that your swimsuit is in the suitcase just in case. Resist the urge to impulse buy at boutique stores and malls. If you see something you love, take a business card with a web address on it. If you still want the item when you’re home again, you can always order it online.
- Alcohol: Drinking at bars and restaurants is expensive. Plan on only one night at the bars instead of three or order wine only with dinner and not with lunch.
- Souvenirs: Yes, it’s nice to bring something home. But who really wears shirts with a city’s name on it or uses city shot glasses? A great alternative is to take one picture especially for each person in your life. The time you spend on seeking out the right image is much more special than the money wasted on souvenirs.
