There are a host of websites around that purport to have the best deals on airfare. Some people make it a point to visit them all when searching for the best deal. But if you don’t have the time–or inclination–to go through all of the competing sites on your own, consider making just one stop: To Mobissimo.

Mobissimo took the top place in a “Fare-finder shootout” published by technology site GigaOm.

The article took a close look at seven popular fare-finding sites. Using three different sets of flight criteria, the author compared the rates that were available from each location. At the end of the competition, she announced Mobissimo as the winner. This site didn’t always provide the lowest fare but it was the most consistent in providing a low rate on all of the flights.

The fares that a site can offer to its buyers vary based on a number of criteria. They have to take into account advertising, their own share of profits, the relationships that they have with airlines, the technology they use to aggregate flight information and so on. Just because it’s advertised online as a low price doesn’t mean that it is. The savvy flier will take this into consideration and be sure to use the websites that really are the best.
