San Antonio is a really fascinating city comprised of a rich multi-cultural history and a developing urban landscape. You can see this interesting sense of San Antonio no matter what you’re doing but one of the best ways to check it out is by doing a fine dining tour of the best restaurants in San Antonio. These restaurants will give you insight into San Antonio in a way that might surprise you.

The food selection will reveal San Antonio’s diverse cultural influences as well as the city’s commitment to modern movements like the movement towards eating more local and organic food. And the restaurants themselves will offer you great views of the city or dining experiences that are right in the heart of San Antonio life. By exploring the best restaurants in San Antonio, you can truly explore what San Antonio is all about.

Here are some of the best fine dining options that you’re going to have when you’re spending time in San Antonio:

  • Tower of the Americas. The single best fine-dining restaurant for the San Antonio visitor is the revolving restaurant located at the top of the Tower of the Americas. A meal spent at this restaurant is going to give you one of the best views of the city that you’re going to find anywhere during your stay in the region. The view won’t be the only thing that impresses you about this place, of course. The food and the ambiance will also immediately show you that San Antonio is a classy and modern place that knows how to enjoy the best things in life and yet still maintain a laid back and generous attitude. This is what San Antonio is all about and this restaurant is a good place to start learning that. There are also several other points of attraction at this destination so you’ll be getting started on your sightseeing when you make plans to eat your first San Antonio meal here.

  • L’Etoile. Maybe you’re not the type of person that wants to go to a tourist restaurant when you visit a destination. Maybe you would prefer to check out a fine dining destination that is preferred among the locals who actually live in the area. If that’s the case then you should consider this French restaurant which has been recognized as a leading romantic and rendezvous restaurant in San Antonio. It’s where people who live there go to celebrate their special occasions and make some magic happen. It’s located in the Alamo Heights Historic District so you can still see some of the sights even as you enjoy a place that will have more locals than travelers in the seating area. Be aware, though, that you might feel like you’ve left Texas and are spending an evening in Paris!
  • Silo Elevated Cuisine. This is one of the trendiest fine dining restaurants in San Antonio so it’s great for young people from urban areas who want to dine someplace cool that still gives them the feel that they’re really in San Antonio. A martini bar on the bottom floor sets the stage for that hip urban ambiance. However, you have to take an elevator through an old silo to get to the restaurant so you get some of that Texas way of life with your upscale dining experience. There are two different locations of this restaurant; make sure that you book your reservations at the Alamo Heights location to get the full experience of what this place is all about. The quaint combination of southern style and cutting-edge dining trends will provide an interesting selection for your palette.

  • Iron Cactus Mexican Grill and Tequila Bar. San Antonio has close ties with Mexico throughout its long history, a fact which is reflected in the sheer number of Mexican food restaurants that can be found in the city. This one is a local chain with four different locations in Texas. The food here is upscale Mexican fine dining food designed for people who like a little bit of kick in their plates. People who are truly wild may want to go a step further and indulge in one of the more than eighty different tequilas that are served at the tequila bar here. If you like tequila, you should know that it’s one of the top ten bars in the country for tequila. That’s not something that you can try at every place you might travel.
  • Boudros. One of the most important landmarks that people visit when they come to San Antonio is the Riverwalk. There are numerous restaurants looking out on the river in this underground part of San Antonio so you’ll certainly be able to take your pick but you might want to make Boudros your top choice. That’s because this is one of those places that really tastes like Texas; the food here is a combination of all of the different flavors that would be described as Texas food. This is primarily Southwestern cuisine that’s heavy on the spice and heavy on the meat.
  • Fig Tree Restaurant. This is another great Riverwalk restaurant that will give you a great dining experience during your San Antonio stay. The difference here is that you might feel like you’ve been transported away from San Antonio as this place tends to have an ambiance similar to pre-Katrina New Orleans. It’s charming. It’s beautiful. It’s delicious. And it’s a little bit different from the other restaurants that are in the area.

  • The Vineyards Restaurant at Garden Ridge. This is considered to be one of the most romantic fine dining restaurants in San Antonio. In fact, the grounds here often serve as a setting for weddings. However, you don’t have to be on a date to enjoy a meal at this location. You just need to be open to the idea that a striking view of San Antonio’s nature and good food enjoyed in a terrific restaurant might have the power to sweep you off of your feet and make you feel like you’re a little bit in love. This is a particularly good place for people who like to have a great wine that compliments their good meal.
  • Crumpets Restaurant and Bakery. For those San Antonio visitors that want to find a place where the dessert will be even better than the meal, there’s no better choice than Crumpets. This is a French restaurant and bakery that offers delicious continental cuisine and an array of great desserts. It’s a perfect place for a lazy brunch during your San Antonio vacation. If you really want to experience the area while you’re there, though, you should look into the rafting tours that are setup and catered by this fine dining restaurant. You’ll get great food in an outdoor setting and enjoy a side of San Antonio that not too many people get to see.

San Antonio is a great place where you can go to have a really laidback vacation. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s a place where you have to be casual all of the time. There are some terrific fine dining hot spots in this city that will give you insight into your travel destination in a way that none of the other attractions there will do. Make sure to add at least one of them to your Texas itinerary in order to get a complete experience of what this destination is all about.
