Miami Beach is unlike any other beach or city in the continental United States. At 11pm, an hour when many people are turning in for the night across the nation, this is the hour that restaurants, bars, and clubs are just getting started. South Beach is the most popular part of Miami Beach and the heart of all the action. South Beach represents a melting pot of Caribbean and Latin American ethnicities, with a high concentration of Cuban influence. Nowhere is that diversity more apparent than the eclectic cuisine, which has been affectionately dubbed “floribean.” In the 20s and 30s, Miami Beach transitioned itself to be “America’s Winter Playground.” With that transition came a boom of glamorous hotels with French influence that afforded the average middle class American a week in tropical luxury. While the area suffered for many decades of neglect, the last decade or so has been spent restoring many of these high-rises lining Ocean Avenue and Collins Avenue to their former glory and now would be the highlight of any architecture buff’s vacation itinerary. The winter months of November-March are the most popular months to visit, when the days are sizzling with sunshine and the evenings bring the balmiest weather you are likely to experience. While it’s slightly cheaper to visit during the spring and summer months, the weather is the most humid and torrential thunderstorms are frequent. Towards, late summer, there is always a chance of coming face to face with a hurricane. To plan your trip to Miami Beach, please visit http://web.miamibeachfl.gov/visitors/.
