Located just about an hour south of the bustling city of San Francisco is a beautiful small town called San Jose. This town often gets overlooked by travelers because of its proximity to the big city but those who have had the chance to explore what it has to offer are frequently eager to return. San Jose has all of the charm of a small town with friendly people and interesting sights but it also has some of the activities that one would expect in a city located in California. There’s plenty to do in San Jose but it’s also a destination that’s off-the-beaten-path enough to not be overly crowded even during the tourist season. Because of this (and because of the fact that the weather is moderate all year long), many people find San Jose to be a great vacation destination.
San Jose has a surprising number of indoor activities for travelers who are interested in exploring a city’s museums and galleries. Families enjoy places like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Children’s Discovery Museum and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium. Adults enjoy these places too but may favor spots such as The San Jose Museum of Art and the Tech Museum of Innovation. Others simply enjoy wandering around the city of San Jose and exploring the little shops that are located throughout the area.
Travelers interested in a more active vacation will find that San Jose has plenty of that as well. There are golf courses all throughout San Jose and the surrounding area. There are also interesting attraction areas such as the Emma Prusch Farm Park which has over 40 acres of farm land and activities to enjoy. San Jose is located less than an hour from the Pacific Coast so water activities are an option as well. Families frequently head southwest to spend the day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
You can go to San Jose at any time of the year because of the great moderate temperatures there. And you’ll find that there are annual events taking place there almost any time that you choose to go. Film festivals, cultural events and performing arts are just a few of the things that dot the annual calendar in San Jose. Just check out this calendar of events to see a few of the things that happen in each month.
