When you need a good dose of modern art in Florida, hit MoCA - The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Since 1996, MoCA has been rearranging the movable walls in its 9000 square feet of gallery space to present an ever-changing range of exhibitions.

The permanent collection at MoCA currently runs to about 400 pieces, including works from Yoko Ono, Dennis Oppenheim, John Baldessari and Dan Flavin. There is also a schedule of special exhibitions, and in the past these have included displays from Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Cano, along with a series of thematic exhibitions like New Art of South Florida, Mexican Modernism and A Century of Tattoos.

A great way to see MoCA and make a night out of it at the same time is to schedule your visit for the Jazz at MoCA sessions. These evenings are held regularly and you can enter the museum from 7pm; an outdoor jazz concert will start from 8pm, and it’s free.

Regular visits to MoCA cost $5 for adults, $3 for students, and on Tuesdays you can get in simply by making a donation. Note that MoCA is closed on Mondays and open until 5pm Tuesdays to Saturdays - and until 10pm on the last Friday of the month.
