There are two types of people who are interested in playing golf in Cleveland. First, there are the people who live in Cleveland and who want to spend any sunny day out on the green. And second, there are the many people who come to visit Cleveland for either business or pleasure and who want to make sure the check out Cleveland’s golf courses during their stay. Cleveland has something to offer to both of these groups of golfers with scenic golf courses that range from moderate to difficult in terms of skill level. The Mets - The two most well-known Cleveland Golf Courses are The Cleveland Metropark courses. Better known as the Mets, these are two different courses called “Little Met” and “Big Met”. Only Little Met is actually within Cleveland City Limits but they’re both close enough to be considered part of the Cleveland set of golf courses. Little Met was originally supposed to be a temporary golf course set up to stimulate interest in its bigger counterpart but ended up becoming so popular on its own that it was kept around and active. This is a small nine-hole golf course that’s more for fun and practice than serious golf play. The prices are very low which makes this a particularly popular golf course for casual golfers but which may be enjoyed by anyone who just wants a quick golf game on a nice Cleveland day. People who are more serious about their golf game are likely to prefer The Big Met which is located in nearby Fairview Park. Frequently called “Ohio’s Most Played Golf Course”, this is a place which is enjoyed by both locals and travelers. It is an eighteen hole course which is challenging but not excessively difficult and is a most likely choice for someone who is just playing golf in Cleveland for the first time.
Mastick Woods - Mastick Woods is another nine-hold golf course located within Cleveland city limits. It is considered to be an easy course and tends to be favored by beginning golfers. However, it’s a great course for anyone that’s looking for just a casual game of golf on a golf course that isn’t challenging. Someone who is in Cleveland on business and who only has a few hours of daylight at the end of the trip to get in some golf will find that Mastick Woods is an ideal place for doing this. It also has some of the scenic beauty of Ohio’s nature worked into the course and so is a nice way for travelers on a quick trip to see some of the prettier side of Cleveland’s golf scene.
Shaker Heights Country Club - People who are looking for Cleveland golf in a country club setting, such as those golfers who actually live and work in Cleveland, will find that Shaker Heights Country Club and Golf Course is the best option within the city limits. This is an eighteen-hole private golf course that is designed for golfers of advanced skill levels. Those people who are looking to practice and challenge their golf game will find this to be a good place for doing so.
Oakwood Club Golf Course. Another private golf course that many people in the Cleveland area are familiar with is the Oakwood Club Golf Course. This is your standard eighteen hold golf course which offers moderate play for the average golfer to enjoy. There are some scenic aspects of this country club which make it stand out in comparison with other golf courses in the area. There are both indoor and outdoor driving ranges so you can come to practice at this location even when the Cleveland weather isn’t up to par.
Canterbury Golf Club - This is a standard eighteen-hole golf course which advertises itself as “one of the great golf temples” and which purports to offer “one of the greatest golf experiences in the world”. That’s a lot of hype to live up to but people who have played golf on many different courses across different continents have been known to say that their experience at Canterbury ranked among the best. If you’re looking to find the elite Cleveland golf course that others will be impressed you were able to visit, Canterbury is probably the golf course that you are seeking to find.
Beechmont Country Club Golf Course. Also located within Cleveland city limits, a resident or visitor might find the Beechmont Golf Course. This is an eighteen hold course which is private and designed for members only so it appeals only to those people who live in Cleveland or who do a regular amount of business in the area. Unfortunately membership is by invitation only so it’s not easy to play on this course but rumor has it that it’s a course worth trying to get an invite to enjoy.
Columbia Station Golf Courses - In addition to the many golf courses that are located within the Cleveland city limits, there are also numerous courses located just outside of Cleveland. One of the nearby cities that is really known for its golf scene is Columbia Station. Royal Crest Golf Club, Hickory Nut Golf Club, Riverside Golf Club and Columbia Hills Country Club are all eighteen-hole private courses that can be enjoyed in Columbia Station. Interestingly, many of these courses are actually located closer to the center of Cleveland than some of the outer-lying courses that are within Cleveland city limits. In addition to these country club courses, Columbia Station is home to three different golf courses that are called the Emerald Woods Courses. Two of these are eighteen hole golf courses and the third is a short nine-hole course known affectionately as ‘a walk in the woods’ course. These three courses are all public courses and are preferred among many Cleveland residents and visitors despite the fact that they aren’t technically within Cleveland city limits.
Outlying suburb golf courses. In addition to these courses, Cleveland residents and visitors will find that there are dozens of courses in the areas surrounding the city. Nearly every little town in the area has at least one golf course to its name, whether that course is a private country club course or a golf course that is open to the public.
