If your idea of romance includes breathtaking scenery in splendid isolation look no further than The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California.

Scenery of a different sort can be found in the UK’s Lake District at the Linthwaite Country House Hotel. The hotel sits in 14 acres of beautifully maintained gardens and private woodland. Hiking, fishing and sailing are among the activities available.
