Parliament

No visit to London is complete without a trip to Parliament. If you time it right, you can see the inside of the building on the Thames, which is open for touring to foreign visitors in the summer.

Tours of Parliament are available free to UK residents throughout the year, but must be arranged through either your local Member of Parliament or a Lord. The 75-minute tour includes the Commons and Lords debating chambers and the Queen’s Robing Room. Overseas residents can take the tour, for a fee, during the Summer Opening.

Anyone can attend public debates throughout the year. Anyone, who doesn’t mind standing in a queue, that is. Tickets to public debates, including Question Time, are available to UK residents in advance through their MP and are distributed to others on a first-come first served basis.

Currently. only UK residents can climb the clock tower, aka Big Ben. The tour is free, however, it must be arranged through an MP.
