Next time you plan a stopover in Asia, consider Macau as a destination. It’s a great place to visit.
Apparently even the mainland Chinese are realizing this, as domestic tourist traffic to Macau has increased to almost match that of Hong Kong last year. Ten years ago, Hong Kong received four times as many visitors.
There are interesting temples and gardens, the historic center of Macau and some great casinos and beaches. In fact, Macau is made up of three islands, and it’s the two islands outside the city center where you can find the best beaches.
With both a Portuguese and a Chinese influence, Macau is full of interesting cultural habits and cuisine. An added bonus is that if you’re in Hong Kong anyway, it’s feasible to make a day trip to Macau, too. Try it out before too many people discover it and it really does become the new Hong Kong.
