Timing is everything, and when it comes to travel bargains it may be the only thing separating you from the other guy. The key to knowing the when to buy your tickets is knowing the industry you’re buying from. Each industry has times that are more popular and have higher ticket prices and times that are less popular where there are deals to encourage visitors. The following is a guide to help you purchase tickets at the right time.
Airlines: If you have some flexibility, try to book a Tuesday or a Wednesday flight, these are generally when the cheaper fares are available. Booking in advance by a month or more also generally gets you the best deals.
Rental cars: This is another case of buy early and get the deal. You’ll also save on off-times as rental agencies are looking to move the merchandise, so by selecting an off-season vacation area you’ll probably get your car a bit cheaper too.
Cruise ships: Cruises are a little different when it comes to deal time, the best deals can be had during the most popular season, from January through March. Cruise ships are so huge that it’s rather difficult to fill an entire boat. There are also more cruise ships now than in the past so the competition is fierce.
Disney: Obviously, Disney caters to the younger set, so if you want a deal on tickets or the perks of less people in the park then you should try to hit the off-season, or Disney’s “Value Season.” The best prices can be had from January 1 to mid-February and from the end of July until mid-November. The only problem with these times is the park closes earlier and routine maintenance tends to be scheduled during these periods.
