Pittsburgh, the “Steel City,” is more than just an industrial center. The city offers interesting neighborhoods, spacious parks and a vibrant arts community. What’s more: Pittsburgh has a number of activities and attractions that don’t cost a dime.
Point State Park: This 36-acre park sits at the spot where the Alleghany and Monogahela Rivers meet to form the Ohio. It was once the site of Forts Dusquense and Pitt during the French and Indian War. Today, remnants of the forts remain, but the big draw is the spectacular view and the ample green space in the middle of the city.
Pittsburgh Glass Center: The Pittsburgh Glass Center offers exhibits, concerts and performance art, and free glass-blowing demonstrations and glasses the first Friday of every month from 6pm to 9pm.
Three Rivers Art Festival: Each June, Point State Park hosts one of the largest and most popular art festivals in the Midwest. Admission is free and attractions include dozens of artists displaying their wares, live music, and a host of children’s activities.
Summer Outdoor Concerts: Every summer, Alleghany County sponsored a full schedule of free outdoor concerts. Attend one on the steps of the Alleghany County Courthouse in downtown Pittsburgh or in one of the parks around the county.
