Cincinnati, located along the banks of the Ohio River, is a mixture of new and old. The city, settled in the late 18th century by traders and German immigrants, has a wealth of historic architecture, mixed with green spaces and modern attractions. The “Queen City” also boasts a number of free attractions.
Cincinnati Art Museum: Founded in 1881, the Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the oldest and most comprehensive art museums in the United States. The neo-classical structure is located in the city’s Eden Park cultural district and is free to all every day. Highlights include the Rookwood Pottery collection, a home-town creation, and paintings by European Old Masters.
Krohn Conservatory: Another Eden Park attraction, the Krohn Conservatory features more than 3,500 plants from around the world, including orchids, cacti, and woodland ferns. The conservatory, founded in 1933, is free to all.
American Classical Music Hall of Fame: Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Nashville has the Country Music Hall of Fame, but Cincinnati has the Classical Music Hall of Fame. Located next door to Music Hall, the home of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the museum honors those that have made significant contributions to classical music in America. Admission is free.
