Tampa lies on the west coast of the state of Florida where it looks out over the Atlantic. This city and it’s surrounding metropolitan area, known as the “Tampa Bay Area,” is home to more than 4 million residents. Christmas might be coming first, but plenty of travelers’ eyes are on December 31, and where they might decide to bring in the new year. If you subscribe to the view that a good New Year’s Eve will herald a successful 2008, you’ll be glad to hear that Yahoo Travel has come up with their official Top Ten New Year’s Eve destinations - and they created this list according to the number of hotel searches through their website for the period over the New Year.

Six of the top ten destinations are in the US, with party town Las Vegas coming in at number one. New York with the famous Times Square ball drop was listed second, and Boston, Orlando, Miami and Honolulu also made the cut.

Further afield, a romantic New Year’s Eve could be had in Paris (fifth on the list), or for warmer weather and a dance or two, Mexico’s Cancun is considered a good destination. In the Philippines, the exciting traditional New Year’s celebrations with plenty of fireworks to ward off bad spirits meant that Manila is the ninth most popular New Year’s Eve destination, and finally, the summer celebration in Sydney left the largest Australian city at tenth place on the list.
